Defending Religious Freedom: Lawsuit Filed Against Homeward NYC for Discrimination and Retaliation
Bashian & Papantoniou, P.C. has filed a lawsuit on behalf of Fernanda Hernandez and Jailene Morazan against West End Residences Housing Development Fund Company, Inc. d/b/a Homeward NYC, addressing allegations of religious discrimination, failure to accommodate religious beliefs, retaliation, and unpaid wage supplements. The plaintiffs, both Jehovah's Witnesses, claim they were unlawfully required to participate in activities conflicting with their religious beliefs, leading to their termination after requesting accommodations. Additionally, one plaintiff was denied wage supplements provided to similarly situated employees. This case highlights our dedication to protecting employees from discrimination and unlawful employment practices under the New York City Human Rights Law (NYCHRL) and New York Labor Law (NYLL). We aim to secure compensation for lost wages, emotional distress, and punitive damages, while advocating for workplace inclusivity and respect for religious belief.
